"The world is starving for different"
This morning we had the awesome opportunity to attend Creative Mornings breakfast lecture with Chick-fil-A's Innovative Director, Dwain Cox.
With a background in strategy, design and advertising, Dwain was able to pass along some thoughtful advice to young creatives. He gave a short and sweet bulleted list, with some colorful imagery and analogies to accompany:
1. Listen and help. (Don't over talk, be wise and speak thoughtfully.)
2. Be Truthful, to your client and yourself. (We all agreed that this was one of the more important points he stressed. If a company with a stinky product asks you to rebrand the product as a clean and fresh one, don't be afraid to tell them that their product is stinky. A new logo or website will only solve their problems temporarily. This will ultimate lead to the rebrand's failure and, consequently, your diminishing reputation.)
3. Less is always better. (Be smart. Be simple.)
4. Find your sweet spot. (How do you produce the most successful impact with the amount of energy given. What is your sweet spot? How much time do you spend nursing that sweet spot? How can you increase that amount?)
In Dwain's own words:
"Be good and be different. If you have to choose one, be different...the world is starving for different."
Hopefully we'll see you at Creative Morning's next lecture with Tod Martin, President and Chief Executive from Unboundary. As always, all lectures are available for your at-home viewing pleasure: Creative Mornings!
